I inverse quite a bit in this recipe every bit I did non take any cornstarch or sour cream. I did the Tb butter, a petty less than i/two cup ranch dressing, 1/ii cup milk, and one 1/2 Tbs of flour as a substitute suggestion for the cornstarch I got from a volume. I mixed this and cooked information technology on low/med-low until hot and bubbly. Added 1 i/2 cups cheese and 1/4 loving cup hot salsa. It was Succulent!!!!!! Not bad with my chips and beans! YUM YUM!!

Thank you for a succulent recipe. I have searched forever for a adept queso dip... and this is it. I did not accept cornstarch, so I melted the butter and then added sour cream, at this point I also added near 3 oz of cream cheese, when adding cheddar I as well added some pepper jack cheese. I used a twice the salsa chosen for and also some bottled hot sauce (louisiana blazon). This was VERY GOOD! Thank you again poster.
02/21/2003
Information technology is a very good dip with modifications. To make information technology a smoother consistancy I used Velveeta. This immune me to cut out the butter and corn starch.
10/22/2006
Excellent and simple. One time you lot've figured out how easy cheese sauce is with real cheese, you'll never use velveeta again. Excellent recipe!
02/03/2009
This is SOOOO good! I fabricated it for a Superbowl party and couldn't stop eating it! I wanted something without processed cheese and this was so easy to make! I will definitely brand this over again and again.

09/04/2001
Non a huge fan of this recipe - it came out very "fluffy" and didn't taste very cheesy at all.
06/04/2006
Very good...I did utilize i/two sharp cheddar and the other 1/2 was velvetta to become a smoother consistency. Cheers for the mail service.
09/30/2010
This was very delicious. For smooth results, I added a few tablespoons of cheese at a fourth dimension and whisked constantly. I didn't have salsa so I improvised with an equal amount of chopped red onion and sriracha.
01/01/2002
Mine came out sort of lumpy. Information technology wasn't shine similar I expected of a queso. I used sharp cheese and bootleg salsa (added 2 extra tablespoons). I also added some hot sauce to give it a fleck more than zip. I might endeavor it again just I would need to play with information technology to make information technology a bit smoother in texture.
08/thirteen/2001
This is a fabulous and easy recipe to make. I had never even tried making queso dip earlier and now I will be making information technology all the time. A nifty dip to serve at a political party with corn chips. Thanks a lot.
11/27/2001
Needed more cheese, wasn't overly happy with the result. I desire to effort it with cream cheese next time.
07/04/2011
Very grainy and tasted too much like sour cream and butter.
02/07/2011
admittedly succulent recipe!!! I made some tweaks like adding italian sausage, put more salsa in, and added hot sauce and crushed red peppers to arrive spicier. But the basics of this recipe is astonishing! I never liked the idea of eating velveeta cheese and now I don't have to :) ... I love the texture - it'southward super smoothen and delicious.
01/18/2011
Soooo good and sooooo piece of cake to brand! I have made this a few times when visitor is over because it is then quick and like shooting fish in a barrel and it's always gone after about 5 minutes! Will definitely exist making this again!
02/21/2002
easy to brand! Yummy to swallow! I just got rid of the leftovers today... it all the same smelled good and I wanted to dip some fries... just, it's been a week since I made it!
04/xviii/2011
Yummy! Added quite a fleck more salsa though.
01/01/2012
Just fabricated information technology today for the Packer game! Really good recipe! I used what I had left of shredded cheese, which was a mixture of a mexican blend, pepperjack, and colby jack. I also threw in some hot sauce to add a bigger kick! Awesome and easy! Love information technology!
01/31/2011
Has potential with alteration. I used some extra sour cream, extra cheese, double salsa and added some sausage. The flavor was very bland and not cheesy.
04/21/2014
Made this recipe as written and gave it a taste examination, which it passed very well. If I had been served this in an upscale eating house, I would have been glad to have it. It did lack a few things that I like in my salsa con queso. I added a few chopped black olives, a chopped Serrano pepper, a teaspoon of granulated garlic and a tsp of dried minced onion that I crushed before calculation.
05/14/2010
Like shooting fish in a barrel and adept. I used a whisk. If y'all whisk constantly until fully melted, and it will exist smooth.
05/03/2011
I didn't have much luck with this recipe. I find it difficult to get the creamy & cheesy flavor at my favorite Mexican place at home. I did detect something at the grocery store though called Queso Melt. 10 times ameliorate than what I accept tried to do from scratch & y'all just microwave in the container so minimal make clean upwards!
07/11/2008
I've been looking for a proficient queso dip and this was perfect. I put a bit of my ain spin on it and added more sourcream, cheese, and salsa to taste. It turned out neat. My young man said this was the best nacho dip he has ever had.
09/22/2006
This cheese dip was wonderful! I used it as 1 of my dips for southwestern egg rolls and it worked well with it.
07/xxx/2011
Was not to my liking. Will Non exist making this again.
01/09/2011
Great recipe! I've been looking for a good queso dip that doesn't use Veleeta & now I've found it!!! I add a little more salsa but thats information technology. Thanks!!
08/19/2009
This was simple and succulent. I used cream cheese in identify of the sour cream.
02/xx/2011
Since I have found it hard to come up with a decent queso recipe, this ane is pretty darn good. I fabricated it with reduced fat sour cream and I do NOT recommend that! It made it gustation a little powdery. The recipe fills upwards a regular sized salsa bowl and so its perfect, doesn't make also much.
12/13/2010
It was pretty good but i did call back that the sourcream kinda over powered it a piddling. Not the worst and really non the best I take had but it did crave very little ingredients all of which I had on hand without having to go to the store. Good for a quick after thought to our Mexican food night.
01/23/2011
Beloved the fact that there's no processed cheese in information technology! The cheese flavor is weak so I would use a sharper cheese next fourth dimension.
09/03/2006
Nosotros usually use Velveta but we were out. Nosotros had all the ingredients for your dip and were soon surprised with the taste! Nosotros did add together more salsa than the recipe called for. I would like to think information technology is healthier than Velveeta too. THANKS!
06/02/2010
It tasted of hot sour foam... not at all like the queso I am used to at Tex-Mex restaurants. The search continues... However, if you are really a fan of sour foam you will probably like this.
05/11/2010
This was a skilful base. Later it was all put together I added paprika and chili powder. MMM.
08/12/2010
This cheese dip is very skilful. My only complaint is that with just the cheddar solitary the texture is not as smooth as I like it. I think next time I will try and carve up it with some velveeta. The flavor more than than makes upwardly for it though. Everyone in my family loved it! I will brand this again soon.
04/27/2008
Awesome recipe and I appreciate the fact that it doesn't ask for processed cheese. I used flour instead of cornstarch too.
05/13/2012
Sorry. I simply did not care for this recipe.
07/x/2010
Very good queso! I doubled the recipe and did i/2 extra sharpe cheddar and i/2 pepper jack. My husband and his cousin loved it! As did I!!!
06/06/2010
Information technology'due south bang-up to find recipes that don't utilize processed foods and do employ simple ingredients that are commonly on hand - I made this following the recipe directions except I added lots more salsa and some leftover seasoned taco meat at the end. I used it to brand a good taco salad with iceberg lettuce, more salsa, corn chips, and cilantro.
01/18/2005
It was too sour cream tasting for us. Nosotros added more salsa too and it was skilful. Just needs to be a footling less sour cream!
12/18/2008
Thanks for a cheese dip that doesn't use Velveeta!!! This was slap-up! The consistency was perfect. Adjacent time I will add lots more salsa, simply because I similar a cheese AND salsa dip ameliorate, merely that's just personal preference.
08/01/2007
Pretty good - subsequently I made a few changes. I used flour in place of the cornstarch (didn't accept whatever on hand), added a bit of garlic when I added the sour cream, and also added about a half cup of Montery Jack cheese and a dash of paprika. Yummy!!
12/06/2007
Really actually yummy. Not nearly as good the side by side mean solar day, best correct off the stove.
04/22/2012
It just wasn't what I would call, "queso". This was thick and tasted much like the cheese dip that you. An make with Velveta cheese. It tasted fine. I am going to try a dissimilar recipe adjacent time.
05/08/2014
OMG, this is my velveeta replacement from now own. I hate using velveeta in dips and other recipes. If you like velveeta only desire a more natural option, this is it!
01/20/2010
I fabricated this recipe "every bit is" and was non a fan. If you make it I suggest following some of the previously mentioned modifications to give it more flavor and a better texture.
01/02/2005
This composite very well, but lacked on flavor. If I were to do it again, I'd apply twice as much cheese and a sharp one at that. Someone else said it made a fluffy dip. I agree. I would have preferred that sort of consistency on staff of life or crackers, but non for tortilla fries.
06/04/2006
I agree with the person who said it would be good with bread. I recollect it would be excellent on bruschetta.
05/28/2008
This is a really piece of cake recipe... I besides changed the recipe I added a picayune more cheese and salsa... it was VERY YUMMY!!!
05/09/2009
When prepared equally written, this recipe was rather bland. I added i/4 cup salsa, two tb chopped cilantro, salt, one tsp habanero sauce, and fresh lime juice.
ten/06/2013
Good basic recipe! I made the following changes: I added a little milk to the butter and cornstarch roux; and so some sour cream, and refried black beans and salsa. I added some canned green chiles to that and only maybe 1/2 cup cheese or even less than that. And finally I garnished with a little green onion.
02/22/2012
Yumm! Was in a pinch and peckish queso dip and this recipe was great! Had all the ingredents except cornstarch so I used flour insetad! Came out not bad all the same! Added some dark-green peppers for some estrus! Volition brand once more!
04/26/2015
All-time bootleg queso dip e'er made! No more Velveeta for me!!
06/18/2012
I didn't take any sour cream, so I added some pepper jack cheese, and I just fudged the whole thing (no measuring), merely I am SO glad I finally found a recipe that tastes like the queso dip I beloved from a restaurant we visited growing up. Thanks!
07/29/2018
This was really good. I've made it a few times now. Sometimes I thicken it with cream cheese or heavy foam if I don't accept sour cream. The texture is amend if y'all stir continuously as other reviewers have mentioned. Thanks!
04/26/2016
Ok
02/14/2014
I followed the recipe exactly, I loved it then did my kids. No changes needed!
04/27/2010
I followed the recipe just added an actress tablespoon of salsa. It's not equally flossy every bit I'd hoped merely about a more gritty texture. The flavor is wonderful. I'll brand it again. I will certainly endeavor to create a more creamy version though.
01/29/2015
We love this simple delicious recipe - keeps smooth and hot in a mini crockpot for a few hours. Great for parties and kids.
07/xx/2020
This recipe was a lifesaver! I tried many other recipies but this one was the best. The dip turned out amazing. I used chihuahua cheese so my dip turned out a footling lighter in color. This was succulent! Thanks!
05/04/2013
Pretty easy and proficient. Kids helped me with it and nosotros enjoying doing it together. Didnt take any cornstarch. Wasn't as smooth as store bought merely non a trouble. Preferred using cheddar cheese over candy cheese, so I liked that. Also added some mozzarella cheese.
07/29/2016
I made information technology as is and used Cabot cheddar. Delicious!
12/24/2015
I used Greek Yogurt in place of sour cream, tripled the recipe, added flavour ground beefiness (pre-cooked it), and 505 Southwestern Green Chile. Served information technology with Labriola Pretzel Slider Buns from Costco. It seriously rivaled Culinary Dropouts Pretzel bites and dip!
11/08/2016
When I followed the recipe exactly as it is written, the dip was underwhelming - too much sour cream flavor, not plenty cheese. I added near twice the amount of cheese the recipe called for and two additional tablespoons of salsa. With these modifications, I would requite it 5 stars. I used fresh grated extra sharp cheddar and added it a handful at a time right after removing the sauce from heat, and it blended in nicely with no lumps.
04/25/2020
concur with ranch dressing guy, better than sour cream, simply I decreased milk to 1/iv cup and stuck with cornstarch. good queso, much better than velveeta.
03/23/2019
This is awesome! I've been looking for a good alternative to the processed jarred versions, thanks! I but added more cheese and salsa!
09/28/2019
Very tasty!! I may try in a mini crockpot next time to keep warm... cools down quick!!
11/20/2016
Super fast and easy. I added extra salsa and shredded cheese. I like my quest spicy so I added some diced jalapenos. Very skilful option to impale a queso craving.
01/15/2010
It's skilful if you want a cheese dip, non queso. Information technology tastes too much like the canned cheese whiz to me.
01/05/2010
Skillful guideline recipe, but I used less butter, less sour cream, and used creamcheese. I did without the salsa, and used mozzarella and cheddar cheese. Turned out really good!
10/07/2012
Needed a queso that was quick, like shooting fish in a barrel and all ingredients I had on mitt... so I gave this one a try. I made ii changes: ended up adding a niggling garden vegetable cream cheese because I did not have enough sour cream and added about 1/two cup of salsa. The consistency was a little strange, sort similar one big blob and that is why I added more salsa (Tying to sparse it out a little) The consistency stayed the aforementioned however. To my surprise the season was really really proficient. So easy and was a perfect compliment to my homemade southwest pretzels. Will be making this once again!
02/15/2020
I wanted a Queso that wasn't Velveeta based. As several reviewers noted, this i turned out grainy and tasted likewise much like sour foam. Will not make again.
07/04/2015
I added fresh cilantro (a tbs.) and 1/2 tsp of chili pulverisation. Instead of using eight oz of cheddar I went with 4 oz of ched. and iv oz of monterey jack cheese BUT NOT the preshredded bags! Big score with my family!
01/20/2013
Skilful stuff! Doubled the recipe & added Frank's hot sauce and extra butter and salsa. Prissy snack with Doritos, guac & beans for the NFL championship games :)
12/07/2010
I did not care for this. I don't know why I trusted the use of sour cream for a cheese dip. I tried salvaging it with some milk & extra cheese, but information technology was also late.
03/25/2009
This recipe was really simple and I had all the ingredients on hand. I used fat complimentary sour cream and 2% sharp cheddar cheese.
09/29/2021
Made this merely as written. Had everything on hand. Information technology is delicious and piece of cake. Will make again.
12/30/2020
Great, fast queso. Only change was using a Mexican cheese blend (Costco) and calculation a teaspoon or then of adobo sauce from a can of chilis in adobo. I liked the subtle oestrus and smoke it imparted. I didn't call back I'd demand to allow information technology simmer 10 minutes, merely the longer it simmered the smoother and creamier it was. Only letting the cheese cook wasn't quite enough. I simmered around five-seven minutes.
05/06/2017
Information technology was okay for my husband and I, although I would non serve it to guests. Never reaches the consistency of a true queso. My gut instinct was to use Velveeta and I was correct, because my terminal result was moderately tasty but not creamy. I added in some fresh spinach and artichokes which saved the solar day just would not use this particular recipe again.
09/eleven/2012
This is a succulent queso dip! Very good and love that it uses all natural ingredients! Its very easy to make. I would also recommend calculation the cheese just a bit at a time, to make a smoother consistency, and for the best (and smoothest) results, serve immediately. The longer it sits, the thicker and lumpier it gets. My husband loved it! I volition be making this again!
07/08/2016
I used a can of hot Ro-tel instead of the hot sauce chosen for. Information technology is better than the Velveta recipe and cheaper!
01/fourteen/2008
I plant this recipe to exist a skillful jumping point for the queso I wanted to make. I used a tex-mex cheese blend (and about twice the corporeality prescribed past the recipe)instead of cheddar, for a spicier flavor. Every bit well, I used flour in exchange for cornstarch and twice the salsa. All in all, non quite equally spicy as I would have liked, merely I will definitely apply this as a base and experiment with information technology in the future.
08/21/2012
Merely added chili and jalapeno's. It was a hit.
01/12/2019
Result was smooth and creamy. I used a whisk and heated it slowly over medium-depression heat.
05/25/2018
I shredded cheese from a block to avert the coating on pre-grated cheese and go along my queso smooth. The results were neat -- thick and creamy! We used it with shredded beef to make Super Nachos for a decadent dinner. YUM!
01/01/2008
This was just ok. I added about 5 times the salsa called for and it was even so pretty banal, so added hot sauce, this still didn't do much, so information technology's proficient if y'all don't like a lot of heat, but didn't satisfy me or my family. Also, I took information technology to a New Year's Eve party, by the time I got it to the party it had a hard layer on superlative and when I reheated it, it just got glumpy, perchance Velveeta is the way to go or perchance no cornstarch, I'm non actually certain why that was needed. I may use this every bit a starting point again, but I'll definitely change it. It ended up getting thrown out at the end of the night afterwards hardly being touched.
eleven/19/2019
This is not queso. This is a cheese dip. I hail from Texas (home of Tex-Mex) and can affirm this is NOT queso. I reduced the corporeality of sour cream and added another cup of cheese but it was still a weird fluffy texture. It tasted alright (non cheesy plenty like others take said). But again, not queso like I was hoping. I don't recommend this recipe, and I don't recollect in that location'southward a substitute for milk in queso.
01/xvi/2016
Yummy! I doubled the salsa :-P
09/13/2019
Crawly queso dip! I added 1/iii C. salsa, valentinas hot sauce and chopped greenish onion. next time I want to add fresh jalapeno. Very versatile recipe!
05/05/2020
First fourth dimension I've e'er fabricated queso at habitation. The cinco de mayo seemed like a skillful opportunity. Delicious recipe! I went the cream cheese route and doubled the (Gourmet chipotle) salsa too. Yummy!
05/25/2021
I fabricated no changes, and information technology was awful. I dispise Velveeta queso, so I actually was hoping for a good recipe. But this was definitely not it. Sorry.
12/17/2020
Made it equally shown and it was skilful. I added more than salsa and chopped jalapeno and it was perfect.
07/26/2020
Information technology was completely tasteless so thick that I had to add milk and for taste I had to had common salt and pepper and I add a green chillies and light-green onions.
01/07/2013
I liked this recipe... I would about probable utilise it again. I followed some of the other reviews on how to tweak information technology. Yet came out pretty expert though.
07/20/2016
I didn't care for this recipe.
08/25/2019
This was ok. It was very cheesy merely didn't really taste like queso, just melted cheese. Improve for fondue maybe. Yous need a lot more salsa than the recipe says to get it to sense of taste somewhat similar queso.
06/10/2018
I fabricated it following the recipe exactly . i like it! I really like that it is ho made with just a few ingredients. much better than using candy foods !
x/26/2015
four stars only considering I tweaked the recipie, which was merely due to the fact I didn't have plenty cheddar in my refrigerator. I has several slices of American cheese that had simply expired, but non quite a cup, and then I had some pepper jack cheese, less than 1/4, I think? it was in a solid state and I didnt want to shred information technology. I added some milk, until I was a little to runny, then took some of the cheese mixture out and added cornstarch, and then a can of diced green chili peppers. then the I added some sour foam (didn't observe a big sense of taste difference. I don't unremarkably have it in my fridge) the pepper jack added jusy enough estrus, so I didn't add salsa.
02/20/2010
This was pretty dandy! I'll definitely make it over again instead of ownership it from the store in the future. I added 4 tbsp of salsa 1 tbsp whipping foam to make information technology less thick. I definitely recommend this queso if you're looking for non-processed cheese.
11/17/2015
I added more Salsa and used a Mexican cheese blend instead of just cheddar and also added some hot sauce other than that I followed the receipe simply I recommend less sour cream information technology made the dip a little as well sour it maybe that'southward just me proficient recipe though
